Immunology basic laboratory tests
Output of the Project KEGA 038UK-4/2019 Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic
Immunology – basic laboratory tests provide theoretical knowledge and the most common practical methods used in immunological laboratories. Laboratory techniques used in immunology make it possible to identify components of innate and acquired immunity, humoral and cellular immunity. The reasonable indication of laboratory tests and the ability to make a correct diagnosis on time is significant in terms of patient prognosis. This textbook is dedicated to English speaking students and teachers interested in laboratory immunology. It allows readers to choose their own pace of study and to get feedback through control questions included at the end of each chapter.
New methods in Immunology
Output of the Project KEGA 038UK-4/2019 Ministry of Education, Slovak Republic
The interactive presentation contains study material about modern laboratory methods in immunological and microbiological laboratories and a set of test questions. Through these questions the students can verify the acquired knowledge with the possibility of feedback.
A to Z GLOSSARY OF IMMUNOLOGICAL TERMS
Output of the Projects KEGA 038UK-4/2019 and KEGA 032UK-4/2019 Ministry of Education, Slovak Republic
The immune system, together with the nervous and endocrine systems, forms one of the essential systems needed to maintain the body's existence. The immune system tries to ensure that all processes in the body take place physiologically, correctly, and therefore can be considered a vital system. In the field of immunology, many new findings are being added and therefore it is important to know the most commonly used immunological terms contained in this publication.
Specific immunity Immunoglobulins
Output of the Project KEGA 038UK-4/2019 Ministry of Education, Slovak Republic.
The cells of the specific immunity are the lymphocytes that are responsible for humoral and cell-mediated immunity. Antibodies are molecules of the specific immune system. They have the ability to recognise foreign molecules on the surface of pathogenic microorganisms. Basic antibody structure, antibody classes and their functions are the content of this interactive presentation. Through the set of test questions the students can verify the acquired knowledge with the possibility of feedback.
Phagocytosis
Output of the Project KEGA 038UK-4/2019 Ministry of Education, Slovak Republic
In non-specific defence, the most important barrier to the spread of microorganisms is their destruction by phagocytes. Phagocytosis is the ability of professional phagocytes to recognize, absorb, kill and degrade foreign material.
The interactive presentation contains study material about cells that provide immune responses and a set of test questions. Through these questions the students can verify the acquired knowledge with the possibility of feedback.
Complement
Complement system is one of the essential effector systems of innate non-specific immunity. The main components of complement are activated step by step by converting the inactive form to the active enzymes. The result of this cascade is massive amplification of the response and activation of the cell-killing membrane attack complex (MAC) and lysis of the target cell.
The interactive presentation contains study material about ways of complement activation, determination of its activity and a set of the test questions. Through these questions the students can verify the acquired knowledge with the possibility of feedback.
Cells of the Immune System
The interactive presentation contains study material about cells that provide immune responses and a set of test questions. Through these questions the students can verify the acquired knowledge with the possibility of feedback.
Microbiology – principal and interpretation of laboratory examination Part 1
Textbook for supplementary study in microbiology, clinical microbiology and laboratory diagnosis of microbial ethiology of diseases. This textbook is dedicated to English speaking students and teachers interested in laboratory microbiology and serology. Our intention was to spread the knowledge for better understanding the role of these laboratory branches and their role in the diagnostical process.
