The immune system, together with the nervous and endocrine systems, forms one of the essential systems needed to maintain the body's existence. The immune system tries to ensure that all processes in the body take place physiologically, correctly, and therefore can be considered a vital system. In the field of immunology, many new findings are being added and therefore it is important to know the most commonly used immunological terms contained in this publication.

The cells of the specific immunity are the lymphocytes that are responsible for humoral and cell-mediated immunity. Antibodies are molecules of the specific immune system. They have the ability to recognise foreign molecules on the surface of pathogenic microorganisms. Basic antibody structure, antibody classes and their functions are the content of this interactive presentation. Through the set of test questions the students can verify the acquired knowledge with the possibility of feedback.

In non-specific defence, the most important barrier to the spread of microorganisms is their destruction by phagocytes. Phagocytosis is the ability of professional phagocytes to recognize, absorb, kill and degrade foreign material.

The interactive presentation contains study material about cells that provide immune responses and a set of test questions. Through these questions the students can verify the acquired knowledge with the possibility of feedback.

Complement

Author: Martina Neuschlová

Complement system is one of the essential effector systems of innate non-specific immunity. The main components of complement are activated step by step by converting the inactive form to the active enzymes. The result of this cascade is massive amplification of the response and activation of the cell-killing membrane attack complex (MAC) and lysis of the target cell.

The interactive presentation contains study material about ways of complement activation, determination of its activity and a set of the test questions. Through these questions the students can verify the acquired knowledge with the possibility of feedback.

Dysfunction of the electrophysiological processes in the heart – mechanisms and manifestation. Textbook for students of the 3rd year – background for the seminars related to the electrocardiography.

The main objective of this textbook is to explain the mechanisms leading to the typical electrophysiological changes in the heart in physiological and pathological conditions and also to show the manifestation of these processes on the ECG curve.
